California Action Alert: Help keep parents out of prison!

10 million. That’s how many kids have lost a parent to incarceration at some point in their childhood.

When we put a parent in jail or prison, their child suffers. And children of color suffer more than any other group – according to a recent study, black children are nine times more likely than white children to have a parent in prison, and Latin children are three times more likely to have an incarcerated parent than their white counterparts.
Trauma caused by losing a parent to prison follows a child for the rest of their life, often manifesting in mental health and behavioral challenges that can create an intergenerational cycle of trauma and incarceration. Children with incarcerated parents are at least three times more likely to go to prison themselves. Will you join Ashleigh and Asia by telling lawmakers you support the bill?
