Orlando Philharmonic Education Programs
The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra has expanded its Notes in Your Neighborhood program this year to Florida Hospital for Children. Each hospital visit is a condensed version of the Phil's after-school initiative that introduces students to music through interactive lessons to build character and self-confidence, as well as musical skills. Notes in Your Neighborhood includes an introduction to the orchestra instruments, an instrument "petting zoo," and the opportunity for children to create original music. The Orlando Philharmonic offers education programs throughout the year for children as well as adults, and reaches 60,000 children each year through its Young People's Concerts, Notes In Your Neighborhood program and Tiny Tots preschool residencies. "These visits are a true testament to the 'joy of music,' said Orlando Philharmonic violinist Joni Bjella. "No matter what these children may be dealing with, to watch the smiles on their faces as they have fun playing the instruments, creating music, and listening to us play is beyond words. I love watching them just being kids and enjoying the 'magic.'"
